Proper toddler dental care will create an understanding and routine for them throughout their lives. Parents and caregivers are responsible for teaching healthy dental cleansing habits and the importance of clean teeth.

These good hygiene habits will lead to avoiding dental issues for children as well as adults, such as cavities. There are different stages of tooth development.

Cleaning teeth properly can start when children are babies and just developing teeth. Dental care evolves when they have many teeth in their mouth during toddler age. Even before a toddler has all of their teeth the area can be clean using a wet washcloth using plain water brush the tongue to get read of any bacteria.

Toddler can brush their teeth on their own whenever they want. They are learning and just going through the motions. Caregivers can then check the child’s teeth and then brush them to make sure everything is clean. Encourage them and tell them they did a good job. Caregivers can enforce the importance of dental care by brushing brush their teeth along with the child. Make it fun experience that could be considered a special time together, which makes the child look forward to it. It is a time to enjoy and teach. A caregiver can show the child how to do the job right and set a good example.

Play games with a toddler to help keep their attention. Make sure that even the smallest child can reach the sink by providing a foot stool or step to ensure safety. It could also be fun to watch them in the mirror as they brush their teeth and make funny faces. Each child is different and that means they will enjoy different things, find what they enjoy.
Show them to put a pea-size drop of toothpaste on the toothbrush.

Applying to much toothpaste will create a lot of foam in the child’s mouth. This will make it difficult to get teeth clean effectively and some toddler’s won’t like all that foam. It could lead them to not liking to care for their teeth. Remember for younger children to use toothpaste without fluoride. There are special edible toothpastes available that are safe for the youngest tooth brusher.
